Two of the area’s leading, locally-owned sign companies are merging and will become the largest sign company in West Texas. SkyRite Signage Company (SkyRite) announced the acquisition of Wellborn Sign Company (Wellborn) on July 12, 2021. The new company will be known as SkyRite|Wellborn Sign Co.
“Wellborn has an impressive 40-year history of serving customers and producing high-quality custom signage,” SkyRite|Wellborn CEO Chan Davidson said. “We are eager to tap into their design and manufacturing talents, which combined with SkyRite’s excellent service team, will allow us to better serve our area.”
Wellborn was founded in 1981 by Michael Wellborn, who has grown the company into the area’s largest locally-owned sign business.
“We’ve built our business by doing what’s right by our customers and have been fortunate to develop great relationships across the area,” Michael Wellborn said. “It was clear that maintaining those relationships while delivering the best customer service would be SkyRite’s number one priority, which is why I felt this merger would be great for our team members and customers.” Michael Wellborn and all of the Wellborn team members will continue in their current roles.
“I love what I do; I love sign design,” Wellborn added. “I’m excited about the future and am looking forward to continuing to serve our customers for years to come.”
SkyRite|Wellborn will employ a total of 48 people, a number Davidson and Wellborn plan to grow. The company recently received its New Mexico sign license, which will allow it to operate across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
“One thing is already very clear,” Davidson noted. “The people who make up the SkyRite|Wellborn team are the best, and we’re very grateful for all they’ve done to bring this idea to reality.”
The SkyRite|Wellborn main office will be located in the manufacturing facility in downtown Amarillo.
“We will continue to manufacture our signs in-house,” Wellborn explained, “and we have full service operations in both Amarillo and Lubbock, complete with sales, service and manufacturing teams, which allows us to turn projects around quickly and create just about any type of signage that you might need for your business.”
“Both of these companies have great reputations, thanks to years of hard work,” Davidson added. “I am excited about the level of service we’re going to be able to offer our community and can’t wait to see where our team goes from here. I’m very thankful to be a part of it.”
